Medicated shampoos. Narrow band UVB phototherapy. A newer type of psoriasis treatment, narrow band UVB phototherapy may be more effective than broadband UVB treatment. It's usually administered two or three times a week until the skin improves, and then maintenance may require only weekly sessions. Narrow band UVB phototherapy may cause more-severe and longer lasting burns, however.

WHAT IS PREMIUM? difficulty sleeping Bruce Strober, MD, chair of dermatology at UConn Health and professor of dermatology at UConn School of Medicine, with offices in Farmington and Canton, Conn. agrees. “The most exciting new treatments for psoriasis lately are Tremfya, Cosentyx, Siliq, and Taltz as they clear most patients who receive them and have very few side effects, and no need for blood test monitoring (except for a pre-treatment test for tuberculosis),” he says. Biologics do confer their share of risks namely infections because they work by suppressing your immune system. This new crop is thought to be more “skin-specific” which means there is less broad immunosuppression and thus a lower risk for infections.

As monotherapy, tazarotene has been shown to significantly reduce plaque elevation in mild to moderate psoriasis.17 However, because of its modest efficacy, slow onset of action and high potential for causing irritation, tazarotene should usually be used in combination with corticosteroids. The primary side effect of topical tazarotene is minor skin irritation and increased photosensitivity. Tazarotene is classified as a pregnancy category X drug and its use should be avoided in women of childbearing age.

A great advantage of the CA exercise performed in our study is that it realistically reflects the decision-making process undertaken by patients and physicians in daily clinical practice. The attributes and attribute levels represented in the choice experiments realistically characterize all treatment options available for moderate and severe psoriasis. To our knowledge, our study is the first to explore and compare preferences for process and outcome attributes for all available psoriasis treatments. Clearly, our findings should be verified in larger and more diverse patient samples before generalizations can be made. Our study included only a subpopulation of patients with moderate to severe psoriasis treated in a German university hospital, and patient preferences may be different among individuals with mild psoriasis. We cannot imply that our findings are transferable to patients in other cultures and health systems. Furthermore, the effects of other disease-related factors, such as disease duration, previous treatment experience, and comorbidities, on patient preferences for psoriasis treatment need to be explored.
The most common type of psoriasis causes dry, red patches, or plaques, to form on the skin.
