Henseler T "If I'm treating a patient who also has psoriatic arthritis, then I wouldn't just use topicals. I'd want to make sure we have some systemic agent on it. One of the scary things about psoriatic arthritis is that it's irreversible, so I'd want to make sure we at least get in the way of some of that inflammation so we don't have any permanent joint damage," Dr. Buka adds.

Emollients (Moisturisers): A great advantage of the CA exercise performed in our study is that it realistically reflects the decision-making process undertaken by patients and physicians in daily clinical practice. The attributes and attribute levels represented in the choice experiments realistically characterize all treatment options available for moderate and severe psoriasis. To our knowledge, our study is the first to explore and compare preferences for process and outcome attributes for all available psoriasis treatments. Clearly, our findings should be verified in larger and more diverse patient samples before generalizations can be made. Our study included only a subpopulation of patients with moderate to severe psoriasis treated in a German university hospital, and patient preferences may be different among individuals with mild psoriasis. We cannot imply that our findings are transferable to patients in other cultures and health systems. Furthermore, the effects of other disease-related factors, such as disease duration, previous treatment experience, and comorbidities, on patient preferences for psoriasis treatment need to be explored.
Balneotherapy (the treatment of disease by bathing in mineral springs) is a popular form of complementary therapy in certain demographic areas , although there is little or no strong evidence of benefit.

The gel from inside an aloe vera plant is known to help heal skin wounds. It may also help reduce redness, scaling, and inflammation from psoriasis. Aloe should be applied directly to the skin, not taken internally. Anyone using an aloe cream should check the label and choose one that contains at least 0.5 percent aloe. Many health food stores carry aloe creams and gels.

Mahler V CLIMATE CHANGE LGBTI support Can psoriasis be passed on genetically? Around one-third of people with psoriasis report a family history of the disease, and researchers have identified genetic loci associated with the condition. Identical twin studies suggest a 70% chance of a twin developing psoriasis if the other twin has the disorder. The risk is around 20% for nonidentical twins. These findings suggest both a genetic susceptibility and an environmental response in developing psoriasis.

Synthetic vitamin D3 is commonly used to slow down the growth of skin cells. It’s found in the medicines Vectical (calcitriol) and Dovonex (calcipotriene). Synthetic vitamin A is also given to help symptoms. The medicine Tazorac (tazarotene) contains a compound that’s similar to vitamin A. Another nonsteroidal topical is Zithranol (anthralin), which is a synthetic form of a substance found in the bark of the South American araroba tree.

2. Ultraviolet Therapy Newsletter Periods (in ‘Sexual health’) (Young People) Immunosuppressants can be used for severe psoriasis. Cyclosporine is a commonly used immunosuppressant. It should be limited to courses of several months (rarely, up to 1 yr) and alternated with other therapies. Its effect on the kidneys and potential long-term effects on the immune system preclude more liberal use. Other immunosuppressants (eg, hydroxyurea, 6-thioguanine, mycophenolate mofetil) have narrow safety margins and are reserved for severe, recalcitrant psoriasis.
