Please try the following options Both acitretin and etretinate are associated with numerous mucocutaneous side effects. At doses of 1 mg/kg daily, many patients develop hair loss. Cheilitis, characterised by fissuring and cracking of the lips, is common as are several other cutaneous side effects. A sticky sensation to the skin, desquamation of the palms and soles, thinning of the nail plates, and development of pyogenic granulomas in paronychial areas can occur. Elevation of cholesterol levels, and especially triglycerides, is common even at lower doses of etretinate or acitretin. Triglycerides can become so elevated that pancreatitis can occur. Muscle aches and pains are also common. Elevation of liver function tests occurs in a small proportion of patients and must be monitored. Many types of non-biological systemic medicine can be used for psoriasis. Different systemic medicines may be tried at different times and the risks as well as benefits should be considered. Cyclosporine and methotrexate are two non-biological systemic treatments for psoriasis (see also the overview on systemic treatments). Both medicines work in different ways by slowing down the skin cell production and reducing inflammation. They are usually taken as tablets, but can also be given as injections. It is important to remember to treat scalp psoriasis even if you experience hair loss, as the hair will grow back once the inflammation settles. Whether or not to treat your condition with self-injections can be a tough decision. Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory condition associated with considerable morbidity and economic burden. Approximately 7.5 million adults in the United States are affected by this disorder; about 17% have moderate-to-severe disease.1–3 Treatment options for moderate-to-severe psoriasis include phototherapy, oral agents (including cyclosporine or methotrexate), and injectable biologics. Home phototherapy, perhaps the most cost-effective treatment in the long run, is safe and effective, and incurs relatively few costs: those of acquiring the equipment, initially, and of bulb replacement every 3 to 6 years.4 Acquisition of home units is often hindered by qualification protocols defined by each insurance company.5 Even when home units are covered, patients’ co-payment requirements may discourage their use, leading many to choose biologics instead.5 Articles from Anais Brasileiros de Dermatologia are provided here courtesy of Sociedade Brasileira de Dermatologia 5 Ways to Help Your Child Conquer the Emotional and Physical Impacts of a Skin Condition JAMA Forum Topics in Ophthalmology AMA Style Insider Haiti 40404 Digicel, Voila 800.223.2273 Psoriasis affects around 3 percent of people globally, and around 7.5 million people in the United States (U.S.). Healthy Living Program If you child has psoriasis on parts of their body, especially their feet or hands, bear this in mind, as sometimes it may hurt them. This could be because they have scratched the lesions and made them sore, the medication has caused some irritation, even down to the weather temperatures. Cold weather can make the skin really sore and so anything against the skin may irritate and cause pain. Perhaps slightly bigger shoes for periods when their feet hurt may allow some comfort.  In the summer the heat may make their feet sweat, this again can cause some discomfort, so perhaps keeping them as dry as possible with some talcum powder may prove useful. And itching begets inflammation and can cause your scalp psoriasis to spread to previously unaffected areas via the Koebner phenomenon. Scalp psoriasis tends to itch more than other body parts, and not scratching is easier said than done, Dr. Farber says. Making matters even more difficult, stress tends to travel with psoriasis and many of us cope with stress by … scratching.
