The effect of sociodemographic, socioeconomic, and disease-related factors on treatment preferences was estimated in descriptive analyses (Figures 2, 3, and 4) and multivariate logistic regression models (Table 4). When participants were stratified according to sex (Figure 2A, Table 4) and marital status (Figure 2C, Table 4), no significant differences were found. However, when different age groups were compared, it was striking that, on average, older participants ( ≥65 years) found the probability of benefit to be less important than younger participants did (Figure 2B). This finding was confirmed in our regression analysis ( β = –0.24; P = .005, Table 4).
Future RCTs should investigate how specific therapies improve the participants' quality of life. Long-term assessments are needed (i.e. 6 to 12 months).

Psoriasis at Curlie (based on DMOZ) What triggers psoriasis? Unpredictable and irritating, psoriasis is one of the most baffling and persistent of skin disorders. It's characterized by skin cells that multiply up to 10 times faster than normal. As underlying cells reach the skin's surface and die, their sheer volume causes raised, red plaques covered with white or silver scale. Psoriasis typically occurs on the knees, elbows, and scalp and can also affect the torso, palms, and soles of the feet.

The use of these systemic medications, with appropriate safety considerations, is supported by Section 4 (2009) of the AAD guidelines. Increased risk of infection applies to all systemic immune-suppressing medications, especially when used in combinations. Many of the therapies for psoriasis manipulate the function of the immune system and expose the patient to risk of severe infections while blunting the body’s response. In these patients, findings suggestive of minor infections must be taken seriously, and the risk versus the benefit of continuing the drug in the face of the infection must be weighed.

Toll free: 888-INFO-FDA (888-463-6332) Psoriasis is in simple terms, only a vast acceleration of the usual replacement process of the skin. The epidermis is the uppermost portion of the skin. The epidermis is made up of layers of cells. The epidermis cells gradually change and move to the surface where they are continuously shed and replaced. Normally, a skin cell matures in twenty to thirty days during its passage to the surface where a constant invisible shedding of dead cells and scales takes place.

LATEST NEWS Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory condition. The age of onset, chronicity, physical, and psychosocial consequences of the disease cause psoriasis to have a significant impact on patient quality of life. Scalp psoriasis is no different, and effective treatment results in an improvement in quality of life. Successful management of scalp psoriasis includes topical therapies that are acceptable to the patient for mild-to-moderate disease, and systemic therapies for recalcitrant or moderate-to-severe disease. The most effective topical therapies are corticosteroid products, or combination products with calcipotriol and corticosteroid. Newer vehicle options provide more attractive and pleasing products for patients and may improve adherence. The current perspectives for management of scalp psoriasis are discussed including available data for systemic therapy of severe disease.

Side effects of topical corticosteroids, especially those that carry the superpotent categorisation, include cutaneous atrophy, development of striae, formation of telangiectasia, and a host of other local cutaneous effects such as the formation of an acneiform eruption known as perioral dermatitis on the face.6,7 Hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal (HPA) axis suppression can occur with prolonged use of excessive quantities of topical corticosteroids, particularly if they are occluded or if superpotent corticosteroids are used continuously over large areas of the body. However, the cutaneous side effects are more commonly problematic than significant HPA axis suppression, which is seldom an issue.8
