#psoriasis?lang=en Narrow-band UVB phototherapy is an artificial light treatment using very limited wavelengths of light. It is frequently given daily or two to three times per week. UVB is also a component of natural sunlight. UVB dosage is based on time and exposure is gradually increased as tolerated. Potential side effects with UVB include skin burning, premature aging, and possible increased risk of skin cancer. The relative increase in skin cancer risk with UVB treatment needs further study but is probably less than PUVA or traditional UVB.
Palmoplantar pustulosis Appearance of biotechnological therapies has revolutionized the treatment of psoriasis, but patients who do not respond to these drugs (primary inefficacy) continue to exist, as well as patients who respond initially but lose the response with continuity of treatment (secondary inefficacy), patients who respond, but don't reach the desired magnitude of response (partial response) and patients who have to discontinue treatment due to safety reasons (intolerance or toxicity), these being the four reasons for inadequate response to a biological agent.27 Retention rates or persistence rates in a given biological agent are thus very useful in assessing the "added value" of therapy in daily clinical practice, since, on the one hand, they reflect the proportion of patients with adequate response and, on the other, provide data on effectiveness, since in clinical practice the effectiveness may be different from that obtained in clinical trials.28-29

This type of psoriasis can even spread to the forehead, the back of the neck, or behind the ears. Scalp psoriasis symptoms may include only slight, fine scaling. Moderate to severe scalp psoriasis symptoms may include dandruff-like flaking, dry scalp, and hair loss. Scalp psoriasis does not directly cause hair loss, but stress and excess scratching or picking of the scalp may result in hair loss.

Light therapy (also known as phototherapy) involves exposing the skin to an artificial light source, either at a medical office or at home. Consistency is key to this form of treatment, which is often suggested for cases that aren’t responding to topical creams. For best results, you must expose the skin to the UV light or lamp for a set amount of time on a regular schedule — usually three times a week for a period of six to twelve weeks.
