Localized pustular psoriasis is a form of psoriasis that is confined to the palms of the hands and/or the soles of the feet. The palms and soles become red and scaly, with white/yellow sterile pustules (blisters of non-infectious pus). The pus consists of white blood cells. It is not an infection and is not contagious. Reddish-brown patches are present as the pustules resolve. Psoriasis affecting the palms and soles can severely limit everyday activities, for example, walking can become difficult. This can be a very painful and debilitating form of psoriasis.
When I returned to see the doctor, I wanted to give him the good news that he had cured me, but the truth was his ointment couldn't control the 'dermatitis'. I eked out each prescription for as long as I could, to put off having to go back for a morale-sapping inspection.

PUVA treatment results in conjunctival hyperemia and dry eye, particularly if sun protection is not used. With proper eye protection, there does not appear to be a risk of cataract. Psoralens for either topical (bath) or systemic use may occasionally be difficult to obtain because of intermittent availability issues.
Not only are the physical effects of psoriasis frustrating, but the emotional effects of psoriasis can be much worse. Psoriasis may cause your relationships to change and people may treat you differently. Unfortunately, this may lead to stress, which then leads to worsening psoriasis. A doctor may prescribe antidepressant medications if psoriasis is diminishing your quality of life. Support groups can also help you cope with psoriasis by talking to other people who are suffering from the same disease.
The differentiation of psoriatic arthritis from rheumatoid arthritis and gout can be facilitated by the absence of the typical laboratory findings of those conditions.

Recommend This Psoriasis is a genetically programmed inflammatory disease that primarily affects the skin in about 3% of individuals in the United States. Psoriasis is characterized by skin cells that multiply up to 10 times faster than normal. When these cells reach the surface and die, raised, red plaques covered with white scales form. Psoriasis begins as a small scaling papule. When multiple papules coalesce, they form scaling plaques. These plaques tend to occur in the scalp, elbows, and knees.
Because biological agents interfere with the immune system, it is important for people who use these treatments to undergo screening for infectious disease before they begin using them. Any severe infections, including tuberculosis and hepatitis B or hepatitis C should be treated before biological therapy commences.
