Medication Psoriasis can get better then worse again. It may seem to disappear and then come back. Once someone has it, though, the tendency to get outbreaks isn't likely to go away permanently. For many people, psoriasis isn't a big deal. For others, it can be quite serious.

South Korea Our funders and partners Ankylosing Spondylitis Psoriasis appears as a small bump, a papule, surmounted by scale. When these papules coalesce, a plaque is formed that is often covered by thick layers of horny scale. When this scale is shed, it appears as dandruff, which can be quite unsightly. Scratching these plaques, either because of itching or because of the impulse to remove it, is a very poor idea because of what is called the Koebner phenomenon (also known as the Koebner response or isomorphic response). This may cause psoriasis to develop in areas of inflammation and trauma. Scratching off the scale will only make things worse. Although most patients do not note hair loss, there can be extensive alopecia hair loss (alopecia) in severe cases.

Frequent Questions Visit WebMD on Pinterest Studies directly comparing the effects of vitamin D analog monotherapy with very potent or potent steroid monotherapy consistently demonstrate the superiority of corticosteroids for the treatment of scalp psoriasis. A recent analysis of such trials revealed that corticosteroids provided approximately a 10% improvement in average scores compared with calcipotriol on a six-point global improvement scale (Investigators Global Assessment of Improvement).18 In addition, vitamin D derivatives take longer before an optimal improvement can be seen, approximately 8 weeks, as compared with only 2–3 weeks for corticosteroids.39 Given the efficacy of both corticosteroids and vitamin D analogs in the treatment of psoriasis, it is not surprising that combination products have been developed and have quickly become a favored medication in the treatment of scalp psoriasis.

And then my liver function dropped again, so they said that I shouldn’t be taking them, so I stopped taking them, and then got put on my injections. And my injections worked, and I had to do them every week, like on alternated legs, so that I didn’t like put it too much in one leg. And I did that for six months, and then I got took off them as well because of some of the complications with my liver again.

WebMD Corporate UV light therapy is typically used in patients with extensive psoriasis. The mechanism of action is unknown, although UVB light reduces DNA synthesis and can induce mild systemic immunosuppression. In PUVA, oral methoxypsoralen, a photosensitizer, is followed by exposure to long-wave UVA light (330 to 360 nm). PUVA has an antiproliferative effect and also helps to normalize keratinocyte differentiation. Doses of light are started low and increased as tolerated. Severe burns can result if the dose of drug or UVA is too high.
Brain and Nervous system Psoriasis is considered an incurable, long-term (chronic) inflammatory skin condition. It has a variable course, periodically improving and worsening.
