tiredness WebMD Medical Reference Reviewed by Stephanie S. Gardner, MD on October 30, 2017 Due to the high rate of side effects with conventional psoriasis treatment, many people with the condition consider using alternative therapies. In one survey almost half (43%) of the respondents reported trying over-the-counter medications or alternative therapies including herbal remedies, acupuncture and relaxation to treat psoriasis. 10% of the people were using some form of alternative therapy at the time of the survey. The majority (52%) reported no improvement in their condition with use of alternative therapy. There is little evidence to suggest that alternative therapies are effective in treating psoriasis. However, those who are interested in trying alternative therapies should discuss the available evidence with their doctor.
According to the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), at least 50 percent of all people with plaque psoriasis experience at least one flare-up on the scalp.
The anti-TNF receptor fusion protein, etanercept, has the most clinical trial data supporting its use in scalp psoriasis. Etanercept was given in an open-label trial of 2,555 patients to compare continuous versus interrupted therapy.48 PGA was the primary end point and ScPGA was reported as a secondary end point. All patients (continuous therapy and interrupted therapy groups) were treated with etanercept 50 mg twice weekly for the first 12 weeks of the study. Subsequently, the continuous therapy cohort continued with 50 mg once weekly for an additional 12 weeks; subjects in the interrupted therapy cohort held therapy (if subject achieved PGA ≤2) until they lost response, at which point etanercept was restarted at week 16 or 20 and was continued up until the end of the study at week 24.48

Procedures A-Z Especially taking care to promote this regime whilst they are at school, is essential, when schools in the summer months are preparing for their sports days, and children spend more time outside generally. Again some research by yourself to find a good high factor, skin sensitive sun creams, and discussing this with your doctor or healthcare team will make things easier and give you the reassurance your child is protected whilst having fun. As your child gets older teach them how to apply their own suncreams and why this is so important for them to do so.

getting a balanced diet and maintaining a healthy weight Perhaps the most interesting finding of our study is that participants attach great importance to process attributes in treatment selection. Across all study participants, the attribute regarded as most important —even more important than probability and magnitude of benefit —was treatment location. In Germany, as in some other European countries, local therapy with anthralin (dithranol), often in combination with UV light, is still a major option for treatment of moderate and severe psoriasis.10,35,36 This treatment is most often performed in an inpatient or day hospital setting with patients hospitalized for 2 to 3 weeks because application is tricky and anthralin stains skin and sometimes even clothing if not completely washed off after treatment. However, after broad introduction of biologicals, this regimen is often replaced by outpatient therapy with biologicals.10,11,37 Although our findings may be partly attributable to bias arising from sampling individuals attending our outpatient clinic, they underscore that patients prefer outpatient treatment. The high impact of treatment location may also limit patient acceptance of UV therapy, excluding home phototherapy, which requires frequent visits at outpatient dermatology offices or clinics. The observation that treatment location, as well as most other process attributes, have a higher RIS compared with AE-related attributes suggests that patients may be willing to accept AEs in trade for a treatment compatible with their personal and professional lifestyle. Treatments poorly compatible with personal and professional demands may include, in addition to inpatient and UV therapy, time-consuming local therapies and systemic therapies requiring frequent laboratory workup.

Anthralin. This medication helps slow skin cell growth. Anthralin (Dritho-Scalp) can also remove scales and make skin smoother. But anthralin can irritate skin, and it stains almost anything it touches. It's usually applied for a short time and then washed off.
Biological treatments reduce inflammation by targeting overactive cells in the immune system. They are usually used if you have severe psoriasis that has not responded to other treatments, or if you cannot use other treatments.

Many people who have psoriasis find that sunlight during the summer helps their skin clear up so as a parent if you notice this with your child, proper, regular, viligant skin protection is paramount, whilst letting them get the benefits of the good weather and the natural vitamin D (found in sunlight) we all need to keep us healthy.
