Addiction A monoclonal antibody against IL-17a, ixekizumab, was analyzed in a post hoc analysis of the Phase 2 trial to determine the effect on scalp psoriasis.55 A total of 105/142 (74%) patients enrolled in the Phase 2 program had scalp involvement with a mean baseline PSSI of 18.7 (SD 14.1). At week 12, the percentage improvement of PSSI from baseline was 87.1% (25 mg), 94.8% (75 mg), and 84.8% (150 mg) compared to 30.5% (placebo). By week 20, a PSSI of 0, or clear, was achieved in 58.3%, 66.7%, and 86.4% of patients receiving ixekizumab (25 mg, 75 mg, and 150 mg, respectively) compared to only 10% in the placebo group. At the end of the open-label period at week 48, all patients were receiving ixekizumab 120 mg every 4 weeks, and 78% of all patients had a PSSI of 0.55

MENTAL HEALTH Can You Make Living With Psoriasis Easier? Cosentyx (secukinumab) Related information on other websites Psoriasis is a complex, chronic, multifactorial, inflammatory disease that involves hyperproliferation of the keratinocytes in the epidermis, with an increase in the epidermal cell turnover rate (see the image below). Environmental, genetic, and immunologic factors appear to play a role. The disease most commonly manifests on the skin of the elbows, knees, scalp, lumbosacral areas, intergluteal clefts, and glans penis. In up to 30% of patients, the joints are also affected.

Excimer lasers share the common feature of producing photons from unstable excited gas dimers. The term excimer is derived from the union of excited and dimer. For the 308-nm excimer laser, the gas dimer is xenon chloride. Decomposition of this short-lived unstable dimer is responsible for the production of a collimated beam of photons with a wavelength of 308 nm.The prototype 308-nm excimer laser used in this case has the ability to produce 20- to 40-nanosecond trains of pulses with a repetition rate of up to 200 Hz. The mechanism of action is not entirely known, but we speculate that it may be similar to that of narrowband 311-nm UV-B phototherapy, which operates within the action spectrum for psoriasis.3 The laser has the advantage of being able to deliver light to specific areas, in a user-friendly, highly efficient manner, without exposing normal skin to potentially harmful radiation.
Treatment Pocket Guide Potential side effects from corticosteroids include cutaneous atrophy, telangiectasia and striae, acne eruption, glaucoma, hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal axis suppression and, in children, growth retardation. The true incidence of corticosteroid-induced hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal suppression is unknown, but it is of concern with prolonged use.7 Often, evidence of hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal axis suppression is found on the laboratory results, even when clinical symptoms are absent. Careful long-term follow-up of patients receiving topical corticosteroid therapy is highly recommended to detect potential complications.
Coal tar is available as an ointment, cream, lotion, shampoo, bath oil and soap. Coal tar is most effective when it is used in combination with other agents, especially ultraviolet B light. Like calcipotriene, coal tar is effective when it is combined with topical corticosteroids. Coal tar shampoo can be used in combination with a corticosteroid scalp solution for the treatment of psoriasis on the scalp.

Life with Psoriatic Arthritis Loose fitting cotton clothing is probably the most comfortable, especially during the summer months. If wearing synthetic clothing such as football tops, these could be worn over cotton clothing so as to avoid any possible irritations. It is best sometimes to be guided by your child and how their skin feels during a flare-up.

Healthy pantry Scleroderma Plaque psoriasis is the most common form of the disease and appears as raised, red patches covered with a silvery white buildup of dead skin cells. These patches or plaques most often show up on the scalp, knees, elbows and lower back. They are often itchy and painful, and they can crack and bleed.

Living With AFib 2002 1943419-overview Diseases & Conditions Account If you have the genetic basis of psoriasis, a trigger can cause psoriasis to flare up. The following are triggers that may set off one's psoriasis:
Alcohol “First and foremost, stop drinking,” Bagel says. Here’s why: Alcohol opens the blood vessels in the skin. When your blood vessels are dilated, white blood cells, including the T cells that are believed to be responsible for psoriasis, can sneak into the outer layers of your skin more easily — and you don’t need to be inviting more T cells. “Your psoriasis symptoms may worsen even if you’re a light to moderate alcohol user,” warns Chelsea Marie Warren, RD, a certified wellness coach in Portland, Oregon.
People with psoriasis may be too embarrassed to participate in summer recreation activities which require the removal of clothing, such as swimming and other sports. In one study, a large proportion of people with psoriasis reported avoiding swimming and/or other sporting activities as a result of their condition. 64% reported that they avoided buying summer clothes such as short sleeved shirts, summer dresses and/or shorts. Wearing seasonally inappropriate clothing (e.g. long sleeves in summer) in an attempt to hide psoriatic skin rash is one measure people resort to in order to hide their condition. However, this strategy is also likely to draw unwanted attention.
