The authors demonstrated that the "effectiveness" domain is the most likely to improve, in a manner consistent with what had previously been described, and therefore conclude that, in order to overcome the need for satisfaction, more effective therapies will have to be available.68

Although corticosteroids are rapidly effective in the treatment of psoriasis, they are associated with a rapid flare-up of disease after discontinuation, and they have many potential side effects. Consequently, topical corticosteroids are frequently used in conjunction with another agent to maintain control. Topical calcipotriene is often used in combination with topical corticosteroids to speed clearing of the lesions and maintain control after the initial phase of treatment is completed.

Animal Learning & Intelligence Hives Diagnostic method Based on symptoms Post Psoriasis often has a typical appearance that a primary care doctor can recognize, but it can be confused with other skin diseases (like eczema), so a dermatologist (skin doctor) is often the best doctor to diagnose it. The treatment of psoriasis usually depends on how much skin is affected, how bad the disease is (e.g., having many or painful skin patches), or the location (especially the face). Treatments range from creams and ointments applied to the affected areas to ultraviolet light therapy to drugs (such as methotrexate). Many people who have psoriasis also have serious health conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, and depression.

The rate of psoriasis in HIV-positive individuals is comparable to that of HIV-negative individuals, however, psoriasis tends to be more severe in people infected with HIV. A much higher rate of psoriatic arthritis occurs in HIV-positive individuals with psoriasis than in those without the infection. The immune response in those infected with HIV is typically characterized by cellular signals from Th2 subset of CD4+ helper T cells, whereas the immune response in psoriasis vulgaris is characterized by a pattern of cellular signals typical of Th1 subset of CD4+ helper T cells and Th17 helper T cells. It is hypothesized that the diminished CD4+-T cell presence causes an overactivation of CD8+-T cells, which are responsible for the exacerbation of psoriasis in HIV-positive people. Psoriasis in those with HIV/AIDS is often severe and may be untreatable with conventional therapy. In those with long-term, well-controlled psoriasis, new HIV infection can trigger a severe flare of psoriasis and/or psoriatic arthritis.
